Modelling
Domains, tags and technologies
Use the workspace catalogs to classify objects with domains, tags and technologies, then highlight them on any diagram with the perspectives bar.
Catalogs
Each workspace has its own catalogs of tag groups, tags, technologies and domains. They travel with the workspace's JSON export, imports and snapshots, and catalog changes can be undone like model changes.
To manage them, open the explorer's Model tab, select Open model browser and switch to Catalogs. Choose which list to edit (Tag groups, Tags, Technologies or Domains), fill in the form and select Add. Each entry in the list has Edit and Remove. Before removing a domain or technology, remove the references to it from your objects.
Tags
Tags are short labels such as "PCI", "Legacy" or "Customer data" that you can put on objects and connections.
- In the catalog, a tag has a Name, a Color and optionally a tag group.
- A Tag group has a name and an Icon. Turn on Allow one tag from this group per object for groups whose tags exclude each other, such as a criticality scale.
- Renaming a tag in the catalog renames it on every object that uses it.
To tag an object or connection, use Tags in the inspector: type in Add tag…, or pick from Add from the catalog…. Tags appear on the cards, in the colours from the catalog.
Technologies
The Technology section of the inspector lists what an object or connection is built with. Select Add technology, then search or type a name, for example "PostgreSQL" or "HTTPS". Archibara recognises many well-known technologies and shows their logos. Anything else can be added with Use “…” as custom text.
- Drag technologies to reorder them, or use Move up and Move down in a technology's menu.
- A card shows the logo of its first technology that has one. Use Set icon to show a different technology instead, or Unset icon to go back to automatic.
- In the catalog, your own technologies can have a Description, a Website URL and a Private icon (PNG, JPEG or WebP; up to 250 KB). Renaming a catalog technology updates the objects that use it.
Domains
Domains split one large model into business or organisational areas, such as "Payments" or "Logistics". They are optional; the domain controls appear once your catalog has at least one domain.
- Create domains in the catalog with a Name and a Description.
- To move objects into a domain, open the model browser's Table, select the objects and choose the domain in Move to domain. Select Preview impact to see how many objects, connections and diagrams are affected, then Apply.
- An object always belongs to the same domain as its parent, so children move together with their system. If you select a child without its parent, Archibara asks you to select the parent too.
- On the Views tab, the Domain filter lists the views of one domain. A view you create while the filter is set belongs to that domain.
Domains organise the model; they do not grant or restrict access. Everyone with access to the workspace sees all its domains, and a view can show objects from any domain.
Teams and status on objects
Two more classifications live directly on each object:
- Status: Live, Future, Deprecated or Removed.
- Team: the name of the team that owns the object, typed freely, for example "Checkout squad". This is a label only, unrelated to the teams that hold your workspaces and plans.
Change many objects at once
Select several cards on the canvas (Shift+click, or Shift+drag around them), or tick objects in the model browser's Table. The inspector's Change together section then offers a Field, an Action and a Value:
- For objects: Tags, Catalog technologies, Status, Team and Diagram groups.
- For connections: Line shape and Technology.
- Add, Remove values or Replace all values for list fields.
The whole batch is one change, so a single undo reverts it. A batch can include up to 500 objects.
Perspectives
The Perspectives bar in the lower-left corner of the canvas highlights objects without changing anything. Its tabs are Tags, Technology, Status and Teams, plus one tab for each tag group. Each chip shows how many objects on the view it matches.
- Hover over a chip to preview its objects.
- Click chips to pin them; pinned chips combine.
- Clear removes the pins. Select Perspectives itself to collapse or expand the bar.
Perspectives are personal: they change only what you see, not the diagram other people see or export.
