# Keyboard shortcuts

Every keyboard shortcut in the Archibara editor, from search and undo to placing objects and moving around the canvas.

On a Mac, use ⌘ wherever this page says Ctrl. Press Ctrl+/ in the editor to open **Keyboard shortcuts**, a searchable list of the most important ones.

Shortcuts act on the canvas. While you type in a text field, only Ctrl+K and Ctrl+/ still work, and keys pressed in an open dialog or menu stay there. Shortcuts that change the model are available only if you can edit the workspace.

## Basics

| Esc | Close a menu and clear the selection |

## Selection

| Shortcut | Action |
| --- | --- |
| Ctrl+A | Select all objects on the view |
| Shift+click or Ctrl+click | Add to the selection |
| Shift+drag or Ctrl+drag on the canvas | Select everything inside a rectangle |
| Ctrl+C | Copy the selected objects with their connections |
| Ctrl+V | Paste the copied objects as new objects |
| Delete or Backspace | Remove the selected cards from this view and delete the selected connections |

## Objects

| Shortcut | Action |

| Double-click empty canvas | Add an object |
| Ctrl+D | Duplicate the selected objects |
| 1 or Shift+S | Place a system |
| 2 or Shift+P | Place an actor |
| 3 or Shift+G | Place a group |
| 4 or Shift+A | Place an app |
| 5 or Shift+D | Place a store |
| 6 or Shift+X | Place a component |
| Esc | Cancel placing an object |
| Double-click a system or container | Open details |

The number and Shift keys only offer the types the current view accepts, for example no apps on a landscape view. They follow the physical key, so they work with any keyboard layout.

## Canvas

| W, A, S, D or the arrow keys (hold) | Scroll the canvas |
| Drag the canvas | Pan |
| F | Fit the whole diagram in the window |
| Esc while drawing a connection | Cancel the new line and keep the selection |

## Panels

| Ctrl+B | Show or hide the explorer |
| Ctrl+I | Show or hide the inspector |

## Keyboard-only editing

| Shortcut | Action |
| --- | --- |
| Tab, then Enter or Space | Select the focused card or connection |
| Arrow keys on a focused, selected card | Move the card |
| Arrow keys on a focused connection label | Move the label; hold Shift for bigger steps |
| Backspace in an empty search | Go back to the search results |

## Flow player

With the player of a [flow](/docs/flows/) focused:

| Esc | Stop playback and return to where you were |

## Text fields

| Shortcut | Action |
| --- | --- |
| Enter | Save an object name or property |
| Shift+Enter | Add a line break |
| Esc | Cancel editing a property or a cell in the model browser |

> There is no need to save. Archibara writes every change as you make it; Ctrl+S only confirms that with **Saved**.
