# History and snapshots

Undo your own steps, see who changed what in the activity log, and compare, pin or restore the automatic snapshots of a workspace.

Archibara saves every change as you make it; there is no Save button. While a change is being written, the status bar shows **Saving…**. Three tools let you look back: undo and redo, the activity log and snapshots.

## Undo and redo

Press Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Shift+Z to redo (⌘ on a Mac), or use the arrows in the toolbar.

- Undo works on your own changes in the workspace you have open, in this browser tab, up to your last 50 steps. Opening another workspace or reloading the page starts a fresh history.
- A step is one change as you made it: a batch edit, a paste or an auto layout is a single step.
- Undo never overwrites other people's work. If someone else has changed the same items since, those items stay as they are and Archibara tells you what it could not undo. A step that fails stays in your history, so you can try again.

Inside a text field, Ctrl+Z undoes your typing as usual.

## Activity

Select **Activity** in the status bar to see recent changes to the workspace. Each entry shows the time, where the change came from (**UI**, **MCP**, **System** or **Import**), who made it, and what changed. Changes made by an AI client through MCP name the person whose key was used, followed by "(MCP)".

## Snapshots

A snapshot is a complete copy of the workspace: its model, views, layouts, catalogs, records and flows. Select **Snapshots** in the status bar to see them, newest first, with their source and revision.

Archibara takes snapshots automatically:

- before every change to the model made in the editor, including undo and redo, and before every batch of operations from an AI client;
- before a change to the catalogs;
- before a snapshot is restored, so a restore can itself be reverted.

Moving cards and other layout-only changes do not create snapshots. Editors can also select **Create snapshot** to keep a named point, labelled **Manual snapshot**.

## Compare

Select **Compare** next to a snapshot to see what has changed since: **Compare snapshot with current state** lists every object, connection, record, diagram, boundary, placement and presentation that was **Added**, **Removed** or **Changed**, with its **Before** and **After** values. Filter by **Entity type** and **Change type**; model changes and layout changes are listed separately. Everyone who can open the workspace can compare.

## Pin

Automatic snapshots are kept for a limited time and number, depending on your plan. Older ones are removed to make room for new ones. To keep a snapshot regardless, an Editor can select **Pin**; **Unpin** releases it again. The number of pinned snapshots per workspace depends on the plan, and the Free plan does not include pinning. See the [pricing page](https://archibara.com/pricing/) for the exact retention of each plan.

## Restore

A workspace Administrator can select **Restore** next to a snapshot. The workspace returns to the snapshot's state for everyone, and the change appears in **Activity**.

Before restoring, Archibara takes a snapshot of the current state, labelled "Before restoring" and the snapshot's name. If the restore was a mistake, restore that one.

> Restoring replaces the workspace's diagrams, so existing guest links to them stop working. Create new links after a restore if you need them.
